VIDALIA — One man is dead and another is in jail after a shooting in Vidalia early Wednesday morning.
Vidalia police officers found Derec Dobbins, 24, lying on Morris Lee Lane after receiving a 911 call shortly after midnight.
Dobbins was later transported to Natchez Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at 1:15 a.m.
The alleged shooter, Vincent Dotson, 20, 423 Clinton St., Vidalia, fled on foot after the shooting, according to reports.
Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputies spotted Dotson at 3 a.m., driving a car eastbound into Vidalia. He led deputies on a brief chase before being arrested for second-degree murder, Chief Deputy David Hedrick said.
Caprice Glass, 22, 102, Edgin St., Natchez, was allegedly in the car with Dotson and was arrested on a charge of aggravated flight from an officer.
Hedrick said witnesses spotted Dobbins and Dotson arguing shortly before the shooting. Dotson began walking away before allegedly shooting Dobbins in the chest, according to reports.
