NATCHEZ — Services for David M. Read, 55, an attorney in Natchez, who died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, in Natchez, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Laird Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Read was born on October 22, 1952, in Jackson. He was educated in the Jackson Public School System, received his undergraduate degree at Millsaps College in Jackson and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law. He practiced law in Natchez for 22 years, beginning his career at Southwest Mississippi Legal Services and opened his private practice in 1990. An unheralded champion for justice, he represented the poor and under privileged with the same vigor and zeal that he had for his more affluent clients. He was equipped with a sharp legal mind and the legal community has lost a great ambassador.
Mr. Read loved the game of golf and was always ready to play a round or two with his friends. His generous, compassionate, and humorous nature will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by fellow members of the Mississippi and Natchez Bar Associations, including his best friend, Deborah McDonald.
Mr. Read was preceded in death by his parents, Russell F. Read III and Waneise Sybil Read.
Survivors include his brothers, Russell F. Read IV and wife, Marsha of South Carolina and Charles R. Read of Jackson; one sister, Elizabeth A. Read of Jackson; and a number of loving nieces, nephews and friends.
