Alexandria, La. — John Casey Young was sentenced Monday to serve more than five years in prison and nine years of supervised release for knowingly receiving child pornography on his computer.

Young, 46, of Vidalia, pleaded guilty in March and was sentenced Monday by Federal Court Judge Dee Drell in Western District Court of Louisiana in Alexandria.

Drell sentenced Young to serve 70 months in prison, nine years of supervised release and to pay a $16,750 fine. Young will also be required to register as a sex offender.

Young is scheduled to report to the Federal Correctional Institution in Oakdale, La., on Sept. 9.

According to evidence presented in March, the Federal Bureau of Investigation discovered that Young used his work computer to search for child pornography on the Internet.

“Mr. Young’s actions furthered the abuse of children and contributed to a worldwide trade of such material,” U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finley said in a press release. “Our office will continue to prosecute cases such as this as part of our ongoing effort to protect child victims.”

The FBI and the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Earl M. Campbell and John Luke Walker prosecuted the case.

Young and his attorney, J. Michael Small of Alexandria, appeared in court last week, but Drell asked that everyone who was not an attorney or a witness clear the courtroom while objections and evidence from both sides presented.

Young was arrested and later indicted in September 2011, charges to which he pleaded “not guilty.”

Court documents alleged Young’s wife at the time discovered video images on Young’s computer depicting an undressed minor getting out of the shower.

The court filings from September allege that the video appears to have been recorded without the knowledge of the minor.
