ACCS goes winless in tourney

CLINTON, La. — A rough day offensively spelled an 0-3 outcome for Adams County Christian School in the Silliman Institute tournament Saturday.

The Lady Rebels tallied just four hits in three games at the tournament, and ACCS head coach Forrest Foster said his biggest problem was that the girls simply weren’t hitting the ball.

“We’ve got a problem at the plate,” Foster said. “We’ve tried every angle to get them to relax. I think they’re just putting too much pressure on themselves instead of going up there and having fun. But having at-bats is what will cure that, so you just have to (keep playing).”

The Lady Rebels dropped its opening game against Oak Forest Academy 5-0, with Ashleigh Williams taking the loss. ACCS failed to get a hit in that game.

In Game 2, ACCS came up short against Bowling Green 6-4, with the Lady Rebels tallying three hits. Taylor Perkins took the loss, giving up six runs — five earned — on nine hits while striking out a batter. No one for ACCS had multiple hits in Game 2.

In the final game of the tournament for ACCS, the Lady Rebels dropped a 1-0 decision to Parklane Academy, with ACCS managing just one hit while striking out eight times. Brooke Runnels took the loss for the Lady Rebels.

On the positive side, Foster said he was pleased with a defensive adjustment he made by switching Jordan Petty from catcher to third base.

“The Parklane coach commented about how well of a game she played at third,” Foster said. “She did a tremendous job.”

ACCS (5-7) will play at Central Hinds Monday.
