NATCHEZ — The Adams County Christian School softball team couldn’t get their bats heated up Tuesday as they fell to Central Hinds, 13-3.

ACCS head coach Forrest Foster said if he had to sum up the game, it would come down to one thing.

“We played a better team,” Foster said. “This was a team with a lot more talent than what we’ve got.”

ACCS couldn’t get many hits off Lady Cougars’ pitcher Mary Beth Hale, who recorded nine strikeouts on the evening.

Jordan Petty was the only Lady Rebel with multiple hits, as she went 2-for-3. Lady Rebels starter Taylor Perkins had three strikeouts.

Foster said a lot of Central Hinds’ offense was created because of errors on the Lady Rebels’ part.

“We weren’t mentally prepared on some of our defensive plays,” Foster said. “There were several fly balls that we should’ve caught.”

The game started off well for ACCS as they allowed no runs in the top of the first before Brooke Allen and McKenzie Landers stole home on consecutive passed balls to give them an early 2-0 lead.

The Lady Cougars answered back in the top of the second when Allen scored off of a fielder’s choice by Madison Frazier.

Central Hinds’ tied the game when ACCS dropped Lay’s fly ball that allowed McClure to score.

Now tied 2-2, ACCS was able to take the lead only once more when Anna McDaniel scored on a fielder’s choice by Tory Laird.

In the fourth inning, Central hinds tied the game 3-3 when Lay scored off a double by Marble.

ACCS was unable to score in the bottom of the fourth with Hale recording a two-strikeout inning for the second time in the game.

The game got away from the Lady Rebels in the top of the fifth as Central Hinds scored seven runs, powered by McClure’s double to left center field that brought in Frazier and Allen.

On the next play, Sydney Philips got a single that led McClure in for the score.

After four more runs, ACCS came up to bat while down 10-3 in the bottom of the fifth and couldn’t get on the scoreboard as Hale recorded two more strikeouts.

Central Hinds scored three more times in the sixth inning to finish the game 13-3.

The game was called after the sixth inning because of an hour and 30 minute time limit.

Foster said his team’s on-base efforts were good, but they couldn’t capitalize on their attempts to score.

“We ran the bases well,” he said. “We attempted four stolen bases at second and got three out of four.”

Foster said his team’s defense was not bad, but it crumbled against Central Hinds’ fifth-inning showdown.

“Tory Laird did a great job at shortstop for us,” he said. “We just couldn’t get over that (fifth) inning. We tried to make pitching changes but ended up having to go back with our starting pitcher.”

The Lady Rebels will play at 4 p.m. Thursday at Jackson Academy.
