ALEXANDRIA, La. — The Ferriday Gators got back on track at the 2013 Dixie Debs World Series as they rolled past the Georgia Dixie Debs 16-3 in five innings in a losers’ bracket game Monday afternoon.
Ellen Bairnsfather, Ginny Daggett and Marty Lewis combined to hold Georgia to just three hits. Bairnsfather got the start and the win, allowing one run on one hit with three strikeouts in two innings.
Daggett pitched the next two innings and gave up two runs, one earned, on two hits and one walk to go with two strikeouts. Lewis pitched the fifth inning and gave up no hits and no walks while striking out two of the three batters she faced.
“They were unmatched,” Ferriday head coach Rt Horne said. “Marty came in for the last inning, and she pitched well.”
Daggett had the team’s only extra-base hit with a triple and, surprisingly, Ferriday had no multiple hitters.
“We did a better job hitting today,” Horne said. “We put the ball in play.”
The Ferriday Gators next play at 7 p.m. today against Tennessee.
