Last week Natchez received national recognition for its friendliness and Miss-Lou residents honored the musical influences of Ferriday that helped shape Louisiana’s music heritage.

As we prepare for the week ahead, let’s take a look back at some of the great things from last week:

-Natchez was listed as one of the top 10 friendliest cities in the United States in an article published in Condé Naste Traveler magazine. The designation was determined by a survey of the magazine’s readers who praised our city as being “a sweetly Southern resident community.” We’re glad others are able to see what makes our city so great.

-The Arcade Theater in Ferriday hosted the fourth stop of the Louisiana Soundtrack Experience, which is designed to celebrate the state’s musical history. Events included a panel discussion on preserving musical heritage as well as some great live music. Being a stop on a tour that includes cities such as New Orleans and Shreveport is something of which Ferriday residents can be proud.

-The City of Natchez kicked off its curbside recycling program last week. Approximately 1,023 city residents filled their blue recycling bins to equal nearly six tons of recyclable materials. We’re glad to see the program up and running and hope even more residents reduce, reuse and recycle each Wednesday.

-Natchez High School senior Xavier Bradford attended the Mississippi Governor’s School program, which provides academic, creative and leadership experiences for nearly 3,500 students across the state. Bradford received three hours of elective honors credit from attending the program. Keep up the good work, Bradford.
