NATCHEZ — A Natchez woman was hospitalized after she was shot Wednesday night during a reported scuffle with her boyfriend over a gun.
Natchez Police Chief Danny White said Tameka Webbs was airlifted to a Jackson hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the chest. Webbs remained in critical condition Thursday, Natchez Detective Jerry Ford said.
White said officers responded to 6 Pintard St. shortly after 8 p.m. to find Keith Pollard reportedly standing over Webbs. Officers observed an open gunshot wound in Webbs’s left chest area.
Pollard told police that he and Webbs had returned home from the Isle of Capri Casino, where they had been drinking all day, and got into an argument, White said.
Pollard reported that Webbs grabbed his gun and tried to shoot him, White said. He then reportedly grabbed the gun and twisted it around to point it at Webbs.
Ford said police are unsure if the gun went off accidentally or if Pollard purposely shot Webbs.
“Right now we’re investigating because we’re getting some inconsistencies (in the story) about what happened,” Ford said.
No charges had been filed against Pollard Thursday evening. He was being detained at the Natchez Police Department for questioning, Ford said.
