NATCHEZ – Services for Ruth A. McKey Davis Zimmerman, 98, of Natchez, who died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at her residence, were Tuesday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Spencer officiating.
Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery, in Woodville, under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Mrs. Zimmerman was born Sept. 2, 1909, in Centreville, the daughter of Philip McKey and Georgia Anna Hughes McKey. She was a rural public school teacher in Wilkinson County for several years and later was a homemaker and sales clerk. She was a longtime active member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Lawrence Henry Davis; her second husband, Henry Zimmerman; four sisters, Bernice Anthony, Alma McCurley, Tessie McKey and Baby Girl McKey; five brothers, Howard, Troy, Harry, Roy and Ray McKey; one daughter, Mamie L. Davis Wright; one stepdaughter, Leslie Mac Zimmerman Benson; one step-granddaughter, Georgia Benson; and one step-grandson, Steve Ford.
Survivors include one daughter, Janet McCaskell and husband, Floyd Kenneth, both of Natchez; one son, Lawrence William “Bill” Davis and significant other, Judy, both of Laurel; two stepdaughters, Claudia Ford of Monterey and Mildred Benson of Frogmore; 11 grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a number of step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren; and a large number of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Larry Davis, Ricky Davis, Timmy Davis, Peter Davis, Cliff Wright, Mark Wright, Timmy Wright and Robert McCaskell.
The family wishes to thank Hospice Ministries for their dedication, care and comforting words during the past several weeks. Special thanks to great-granddaughter, Mandy Coffill, and step-granddaughter, Geraldine Benson, for their selflessness in helping to care for and comfort her in the weeks preceding her death. The family also wishes to thank the many great friends and family members who were always there to help when needed.
