CENTREVILLE — Adams County Christian School softball coach Forrest Foster made a friendly wager with his team, and now he has a new hair color to show for it.

Foster, whose Lady Rebels had never beaten Centreville Academy, told his team he would dye his hair blue if they topped the Lady Tigers in their season opener Friday. And his girls delivered with a 12-0 win.

“They talk about older women being blue-haired,” Foster joked. “Well, I’m an older man, and I’m (now) blue-haired.”

But Foster said he has no problem looking a bit odd for a little while.

“Anything to motivate the kids,” he said. “It’s not about me, it’s about them.”

Taylor Perkins got the win for the Lady Rebels, pitching the first three innings and tallying three walks and three strikeouts. Brooke Runnels pitched the final two innings, giving up Centreville’s lone hit while striking out four and walking three. The game was called after five innings because of the 10-runs-after-five mercy rule.

“We played really well,” Foster said. “Taylor did a good job hitting her spots, and Brooke came in and did a really good job.”

Ashleigh Williams, Machaela Ashley and Bailey Boyd all had doubles for ACCS, and Jordan Petty had two doubles. Williams and Petty were both 3-for-3, and Tory Laird and Brooke Allen both finished 2-for-3.

“Our girls did a good job of being patient at the plate and not getting themselves out,” Foster said. “They had timely hitting, and they focused really well, which is something we’ve been working on — focusing, yet playing loose and having fun.”

Centreville Academy (0-1) will host ACCS (1-0) and Trinity Episcopal in a round-robin tournament today. ACCS opens with Franklin Academy at 10:30 a.m., followed by Centreville at 1:30 p.m. and Trinity at 3 p.m.
