NATCHEZ — The Natchez Dixie Youth 11- and 12-year-olds will head to the state tournament round with the No. 2 seed out of its district and a state title in mind.
Up first for the Natchez 11s and 12s is Purvis, which Natchez will take on at 6 p.m. today in Hattiesburg. Assistant coach David Lindsey said the team has been hard at work at practice gearing up for this weekend.
“We’ve practiced every day this week, and we’ve worked on hitting the most,” Lindsey said. “The boys are really excited about going. I think they’re all going to stay in the same hotel, and they get to hang out and play baseball — and hopefully win a couple of games.”
Coming out on top at the state tournament will be no easy task, and Lindsey said the 11s and 12s would face top-tier competition.
“We’re going to see the best in the state, that’s for sure,” Lindsey said. “I think win or lose (today), we have to play two (games) on Saturday, so they’ll be good and worn out by the time Saturday is over. All these teams are really good from what I hear.”
