Ferriday Fire officials installing detectors
FERRIDAY — The Ferriday Fire Department is giving away smoke detectors and will install them for free.
The department received several hundred detectors from the Louisiana fire marshal’s office.
Fire Chief Herman Smith said the only requirement to receive a smoke detector is a call to the fire department.
“They just need to call us and give us their house number,” Smith said. “Anyone that wants a smoke detector can have one.”
The fire department will also install the smoke detectors.
Though many houses may already have smoke detectors, Smith said the department’s devices are more reliable than many store-bought ones.
To receive a smoke detector, Smith said to call the department at 318-757-8158.
