From a new industry bringing jobs to Vidalia to a Cathedral student being selected as an international leader for the Key Club, this week brought good news in a variety of forms.

Before we prepare for the week ahead, let’s take a look back at the highlights from last week:

-Hinterland LLC, a company that aims to use biomass as an energy source, is expected to bring 50 new jobs and make a $100-million capital investment in Vidalia. The city leased the company 132 acres in its industrial park Tuesday. We’re glad to welcome another industry to the area and hope their commitment will bring more investments to the area.

-Rachel Benoit was elected as Key Club International vice president at the organization’s international convention in Washington, D.C. The rising Cathedral senior has been involved in Key Club, a student-led, high school organization, for several years. We congratulate Benoit on her achievements and wish her the best in the future as she continues to represent Natchez and all of Mississippi.

-The Concordia Parish School District experienced the third-most growth in the state for students scoring “good” or “excellent” scores on end-of-course exams. The tests are required for students to graduate and are also used to calculate 25 percent of a school’s state-measured school performance scores. We applaud the students who worked hard to achieve those scores and the district for continuing to educate the future members of our community.
