FERRIDAY – Services for Raymond “Pa” Cowan, 78, of Monterey, who died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, with his family by his side following a lengthy illness, will be 3 p.m. Sunday, at Concordia Parish Community Center.
Burial will follow at Cypress Grove Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Mr. Cowan was born Oct. 8, 1929, in Foules, La., the son of Albert and Alice Cowan. He was raised in Catahoula and Concordia Parishes. He worked for the R.B. Sharp family for 42 years as the ranch manager for Excelsior Plantation and later with the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Mr. Cowan was a gentleman, family man and hunter. He received love and respect because he gave love and respect. He loved his family and was always with them.
He was the envy of any hunter that was from the area and anyone who ever went in his house. Most of all, he was just “Pa” and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Coco Cowan; his parents; four brothers, Curtis Cowan, Bill Cowan, Irvin Cowan and Virgil Cowan; one sister, Edith Cowan; and granddaughter, Sarah Marie Cowan.
Survivors include two sons, Johnny Leslie Cowan and wife, Sharon, both of Yuma, Ariz., and Raymond Dale Cowan and wife, Gayle, both of Ridgecrest; four brothers, Jeff Cowan, John Cowan and Harvey Cowan, all of Dunbarton, La., and Earl Cowan of Clovis, N.M.; two sisters, Dorothy Wiley and Betty Hollis, both of Dunbarton; eight grandchildren, Michael Cowan and wife, Chasity, Stephen Cowan and wife, Kim, Elizabeth Cowan, Lesley Baker and Sam, Charles “Tony” Cowan, Shaunna Cowan and Corey Cowan; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in “Pa’s” name to a charity of choice.
