NATCHEZ – Services for Samuel Joseph Brinkley Sr., 82, of Lorman, who died Friday, April 18, 2008, at Jefferson County Hospital, in Fayette, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church.
Burial will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, in Harriston, under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Mr. Brinkley was the son of Squire Brinkley Sr. and Daisy Walker Brinkley. He was a retired employee of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg, and a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Fayette.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Donald Brinkley; three sisters, Geneva Starks, Sister Mary Edith Brinkley and Sister Adel; and three brothers, Elvin Brinkley, Alfred Brinkley Sr. and Edward LaSalle Brinkley.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie Lee Brinkley; two sons, Clinton Brinkley and wife, Melvina, both of New Orleans, and Samuel Joseph Brinkley Jr. and wife, Shelia, both of Lorman; seven daughters, Mary A. Humes and husband, Willie, both of Vicksburg, Irma L. Lane and husband, Roy, both of Lorman, Rachel B. Buie and husband, John, both of Fayette, Marguerette B. Swift and Camille B. Barnett, both of Woodbridge, Va., Betty B. Longino and husband, Darrell, both of Jackson and Shirley M. Carpenter and husband, AJ, both of Marrero, La.; two brothers, Leonard Brinkley Sr. and Squire Brinkley Jr., both of Lorman; and three sisters, Serena Davis and Daisy Green, both of New Orleans, and Teresa Cameron of Natchez.
