JONESBORO, La. — After Bailey Yates allowed two runs in just one-third of an inning, head coach Leigh Anne Mason knew it was time to go to the bullpen and in relief came Haley Sharp.

That move, along with a six-run rally in the bottom of the first, changed the entire complexity of the ball game as the Vidalia Little League 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars defeated Jackson Parish 10-2 Saturday afternoon at the state tournament.

Yates walked four batters and gave up a base hit before Sharp came in and shut down Jackson Parish over five and two-thirds inning. Sharp gave up just one hit, struck out seven batters and walked two.

“We knew going in that pitching was going to be the key. When Bailey’s on, she’s on. Bailey wasn’t on today,” Mason said. “Haley came in and threw strikes. She became a leader on the field.”

After their big first inning, Vidalia would put up four more runs the rest of the game.

Sharp helped her own cause by going 3-for-3 at the plate. Sydney Watts was 2-for-2 with a double, Shelbi McManus had a double, and Caroline Cotten went 2-for-3.

The Vidalia 11s and 12s take on the winner of the Bossier Parish/Blanchard game today at 6 p.m.

Vidalia 9-10s 10, Shreveport 7

VIDALIA — Allie Feltus belted two doubles and Fisher Iseminger went 3-for-4 as the Vidalia Little League 9- and 10-year-old All-Stars held on to defeat the Shreveport All-Stars Saturday afternoon at the state tournament at the Concordia Recreation District 3 Complex.

Shyvlie Blaney was the winning pitcher as she held Shreveport to one run and struck out two in the final two innings. She entered the game with the score tied at 6-6. Starting pitcher Madeline Smith allowed just one run and struck out one in two innings. Harlie Murray had a better game at the plate than she did in her two innings on the mound.

Murray went 2-for-3 with a double and gave up five runs with just one strikeout in the middle two innings.

The Vidalia 9s and 10s don’t play again until 8 p.m. Monday against the winner of the Avoyelles Parish/Bossier City game.

Bossier 11, Vidalia 7-8s 3

NEW IBERIA, La. — The Vidalia Little League machine-pitch All-Stars lost to the Bossier All-Stars Saturday afternoon and were eliminated from the state tournament. No other information on the game was available.
