Franklin County offense stays cold in loss

TYLERTOWN — Franklin County High School held Tylertown High School to just 138 yards of offense, but could only muster one touchdown itself as it fell to Tylertown 16-7 Friday.

Franklin County’s only touchdown came in the third quarter on a Tevin Thomas 5-yard carry.

Tylertown scored first in the second quarter on a 16-yard touchdown run by Jameion Lewis. Lewis scored again in the third quarter on a 5-yard touchdown carry.

In the fourth, Tylertown’s Quincy Conerly hit a 23-yard field goal with 3:49 left in regulation.

Darnell Ford and Thomas both led the Bulldogs in rushing. Ford had 50 yards on 15 carries, and Thomas tallied 55 yards on eight attempts. Lewis had 73 yards on 20 carries for Tylertown, with two touchdowns. He was also 1-for-7 in passing for 2 yards.

Franklin County fell to 7-2 on the season, 3-0 in district play.

Jefferson County 34, Hazlehurst 14

HAZLEHURST — Jefferson County High School finished with 299 yards of total offense in its win over Hazlehurst High School.

Davian Noble got things started for Jefferson County in the first quarter on a 16-yard touchdown catch.

Hazlehurst responded with two touchdowns in the first quarter, one on a Gabriel Gray 80-yard punt return, and the other on a Leviticus Cain 80-yard interception return.

In the second quarter, Jefferson County’s Elbert Ford scored on a 10-yard touchdown carry. Hazlehurst responded with a 45-yard touchdown run by Gray in the second.

Before the end of the first half, Jefferson County’s Ronnie Groves caught a 10-yard touchdown pass, putting Jefferson County ahead 22-18 at the half.

The third quarter was all Jefferson County. Ford scored on a 15-yard touchdown reception, and Josh Binham tallied a 60-yard fumble recovery.

Jefferson County rose to 3-5 on the season, 2-1 in district play.

Wilkinson County 9, Amite County 6

LIBERTY — Wilkinson County High School got its first 7-3A win this season against Amite County High School.

Wilkinson County scored on a touchdown and a safety, both in the second quarter. The touchdown came on a 2-yard run by Brandon Horton and the safety came when Wilkinson County’s Ezra Jones and Ladalvin Bell sacked Amite County’s Jerel Cobb in the end zone. Amite County’s only touchdown also came in the second, on a 15-yard pass from Cobb to Damien Wilson.

Wilkinson County rose to 4-5 on the season, 1-3 in regional play.

Amite County fell to 1-6 on the year, 0-4 in regional play.
