Myrtle Breithaupt

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Services for Myrtle Downing Breithaupt, 89, of Huntsville, Ala., who died Monday, May 12, 2008, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Father Phil O’Kennedy officiating.
Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery, Inc., under the direction of Laughlin Service Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Breithaupt was born Jan. 1, 1919, in Mobile, Ala., and served as a nurse during World War II. She received training as a registered nurse at Providence Hospital in Mobile.
She married William “Pete” Breithaupt in 1950 and moved to Huntsville in 1958 where she worked for many years at 5th Avenue Hospital and Huntsville Hospital. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish for 49 years. During this time, she initiated the Perpetual Adoration Society at Holy Spirit, and participated in the Legion of Mary.
Mrs. Breithaupt was a ham radio operator and a member of the Westbury Homemakers Club, Embroiderers Guild of America and the National Council of Catholic Nurses. After retiring from nursing, she became a Real Estate Broker and worked for several years in the Huntsville area. She was a loving wife and mother, devoted grandmother and loyal friend. Mrs. Breithaupt enjoyed cooking, traveling, gardening, sewing, needlework and taking care of her family.
Her memory will remain strong through the legacy she left through her five children and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by he husband of 56 years, “Pete.” They are now together again.
Survivors include five children, Rosemary V. Breithaupt of Memphis, Tenn., William Gahan Breithaupt II of Silver Spring, Md., Deirdre Breithaupt of Leesburg, Va., Patrick Breithaupt and wife, Barbara, both of Madison, Ala., and Claire Breithaupt-Bennett and husband, Garner R., both of Alexandria, Va.; and six grandchildren, Sydney Lea Breithaupt, Emily Darien Bennett, Nicholas Alexander Bennett, Madeleine Dominique Breithaupt, Therese Michelle Breithaupt and Christina Grace Breithaupt.
