Emma Wedgworth

WEDGWORTH, Ala. – Graveside services for Emma Jean Wedgworth, 78, who died Friday, May 9, 2008, in Birmingham, Ala., will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Cemetery, in Wedgworth, with the Rev. Scott Livingston officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of Magnolia Chapel South Funeral Home in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Friends and family are also invited today and Saturday evening from 6 to 10 p.m. at the home of Stephen and Peggy Forsyth, 4000 High Court Road, in Birmingham.
Mrs. Wedgworth was born in Springhill, La., and was a resident of Natchez most of her adult life. She attended Loyola University and was a graduate of the Hotel Dieu School of Nursing, in New Orleans, in 1957. Her career as a surgical nurse continued for over 30 years where she served as president of the Nurses’ Association, in Natchez, and was also an instructor for LPN training.
Mrs. Wedgworth was a long time members of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church, in Natchez, where she served on church committees including president of the United Methodist Women’s Committee. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Natchez Garden Club, the Natchez Civic and Welfare Club, the Natchez Historical Society and the Friends of the Library where she served as president and other offices. She was an avid gardener and cherished her time spent with close friends of her bridge club. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 45 years, Julian D. Wedgworth.
Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Wedgworth Forsyth and husband, Stephen, both of Birmingham; two sons, David William Monk Sr. and wife, Anne, both of Azle, Texas and Morgan Davis Wedgworth II and wife, Karen, both of Montgomery, Ala.; eight grandchildren, David William Monk Jr., Grace Monk, Heather Monk, Morgan Davis Wedgworth III, Margaret Emma Wedgworth, Blake Harris Wedgworth, Brannum Scott Forsyth and Andrew Gabriel Forsyth; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Monk and Steven Monk; one sister, Peggy Jo Holley; three brothers, Don Coyle, Odell Coyle and wife, Cathryn, and Kenneth Coyle and wife, Aileen; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank all those at Princeton Baptist Hospital in Birmingham, floor three west, and New Beacon Hospice who were so kind to Mrs. Wedgworth. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Lovely Lane United Methodist Church or the Friends of the Library, both in Natchez.
