Ruby Cowart

NATCHEZ – Services for Ruby D. Cowart, 78, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at her residence, will be at 2 p.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Joel Haire officiating.
Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Cowart was born Aug. 6, 1929, in Wisner, La., the daughter of J.A. and Lorene McCreary Dean. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for over 40 years. Mrs. Cowart was retired from the Natchez Public School System after 20 years of service. She also served as secretary for the Woodmen of the World. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She thought the world of her great-grandchildren and loved spending time playing with them.
Mrs. Cowart was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, Curtis Edward Cowart Sr.; three children, Carolyn Ann Allen and husband, Greg, Curtis Edward Cowart Jr. and wife, Deborah Kahl, and Randy Cowart and wife, Lori Ann, all of Natchez; five grandchildren, Elaine Cowart Burke and husband, Jamie, Adam Thornton and wife, Brandy, Leston Edward Cowart and wife, Misty, Curt Thornton and Kristin Thornton; and four great-grandchildren, Spencer Burke, Ainsley Belle Burke, Abby Nicole Cowart and Seth Cowart.
Pallbearers will be Leston Cowart, Adam Thornton, Curt Thornton, Jamie Burke, Greg Allen, Mike Cook and Shelby Carlisle.
