VIDALIA – A service celebrating the life of Shelby Jean Freeman, 71, of Roanoke, Va., formerly of Vidalia, who died Saturday, May 31, 2008, at her residence, after a courageous battle with cancer, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church, 2001 Murray Drive, in Vidalia, with the Rev. Ron Ledford officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Vidalia.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Vidalia.
Mrs. Freeman was born Nov. 1, 1936, in Morton, the daughter of Sylva and Nealie Miller. She attended Summerdean Church of the Brethren, in Roanoke, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Vidalia.
Mrs. Freeman was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joel Ray Freeman Sr.; and stepson, Joel Ray Freeman Jr.
Survivors include one daughter, Laura J. Freeman of Roanoke, formerly of Vidalia; two stepdaughters, Angela Muse and husband, Rusty, both of Lafayette, La., and Pamela Curtis and husband, Jack, both of Tupelo; one stepson, Larry Freeman and wife, Sigrun, both of Tacoma, Wash.; two sisters, Betty Havard and husband, Jimmy, both of Petal, and Eloise Griffin of Greenville; five grandchildren, Joel Freeman, Lindy and Tyler Muse, Paige and Peyton Curtis; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends.
