Summer may have officially begun last week, but Miss-Lou residents haven’t shown any signs of slowing down.

Let’s look back at some of the highlights from last week:

-Natchez native Roderick Whitley spent part of his summer as co-music director of the Natchez Little Theatre’s summer youth workshop. Whitley was the first Mississippian accepted into the graduate musical theatre-writing program last year at New York University’s Tisch School of Performing Arts. We’re glad to see Whitley returning to Natchez to share his knowledge with others.

-Michael Hoggatt has gone full circle at Glenburney Nursing Home starting as a nursing aid in 1981 to returning as floor supervisor 18 years later. The Melrose Avenue Church of Christ pastor uses the power of scripture and prayer to uplift those at Glenburney who have no family or are dealing with sickness. We thank Hoggatt for the work he’s doing.

-A handful of Concordia Parish teachers attended training sessions needed to teach Advanced Placement (AP) courses for the first time during the upcoming school year. The courses give high school students the opportunity to enroll in college-level courses and potentially receive college credits. We’re glad to see our schools offering students various options to prepare for their futures.

-C.J. Meaders is ready to take on the role of chaplain at Trinity Episcopal Day School and all the responsibilities associated with the position. The Canton native will also teach religion and lead a new service-learning component at the school. We wish Meaders all the best and welcome him into our community.

Summer showers with temperatures hovering in the 90s are forecasted throughout the week. So grab your sunglasses and sunscreen, but keep your umbrella near as you welcome the summer season.
