JENA — Services for Obye Claudia Cooper, 57, of Vidalia, who died Friday, June 6, 2008, at Riverland Medical Center will be at 4 p.m. today at the Chapel of Hixson Brothers in Jena with the Rev. Winfred Belgard and Gay Bradford officiating.
Burial will follow at Taylor Chapel Cemetery in Summerville under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Jena.
Friends called on the Cooper family at the funeral home from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.
Mrs. Cooper was born June 6, 1951, the daughter of Frank Elwood and Obye Jo Simmons.
She worked as a salesperson in retail sales and she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joel A. and Claude “Mama Dear” Carr and Milton and Edna Simmons; a granddaughter, Sarah Marie Cowan; and her father-in-law E.D. Cooper.
Survivors include her husband, John D. Cooper of Vidalia; her parents; two sons, Steven Dale Cowan and wife Kim of Vidalia and Michael Jesse Cowan and wife Chasity of Dolorosa; one sister Derinda Smith and husband Rick of Vidalia; nine grandchildren, Maggie Grace Cowan, Selah Marie Cowan, Corey Edwin Cowan, Reed Wilson Cowan, Hayden Garrett Cowan, Kaitlyn Jesse Cowan, Stephen Cole Cowan, Savannah Lee Cowan and Cody Edwards; seven nieces, Alicia Ann Smith, Ashley Elveston and give other; and nine nephews.
