NATCHEZ — The Subdistrict 5 machine-pitch tournament will get a chance to test out the new Concordia Recreation District 3 complex from June 25-29 as the Concordia Parish All-Stars play host to several area teams.

The event will bring five teams from all over the district to Vidalia to compete for a chance to go to the state tournament. Only the top two teams will be eligible to compete in state.

Concordia head coach Boo Brady said the state tournament will be in Calhoun, La., and he thinks his team has what it takes to make it to the big stage.

“I feel real good, we have a bunch of good kids with good gloves that can hit the ball and make good plays,” Brady said. “And I think having home-field advantage is a plus.”

He also said that there is only one thing his team needs to do to head to Calhoun.

“My keyword all year has been ‘focus,’” Brady said. “I think if we stay focused among other things, good things will happen.”

Brady said his team wants to do more than just make it to state, they want to prevail.

“It’s OK to win district, but we want to win state, too,” Brady said. “We can be the machine-pitch team that wins state for Concordia Parish.”

Concordia Dixie Youth Director Mike Bowlin said the tournament will host two games a day, starting at 6 p.m. each night. Each game has an hour-and-15-minute time limit.

Admission will be $5 for adults and is free for children 12 and under.

As these five teams battle it out, Brady said spectators can come out with their family to enjoy the aura of baseball.

“Life at the ballpark is something that a family can enjoy,” Brady said. “It gives the family time to kick back and enjoy the game.”

Bowlin said tourists coming to Vidalia can be great for the city.

“We have the best complex in our district and we have three tournaments this summer to show off our complex,” Bowlin said.

“We invite everybody to come out and see our brand new complex.”
