COLUMBIA, La. – Services for Larry Gene Parker, 60, of Columbia, La., who died Sunday, June 22, 2008, at Minden Medical Center, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Riser Funeral Home Chapel, in Columbia, with the Rev. Charles Lutrick and the Rev. Marvin Tabora officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Parker was born Jan. 9, 1948, in Monroe, La., the son of Mike Sr. and Ova Colvin Parker. He was a minister with the Church of God faith and was a member of the Louisiana State Youth Board. He pastored several churches throughout Louisiana, retiring from Woolen Lake Church of God. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict having served in the Army.
Mr. Parker received several awards for service and valor including the Distinguished Flying Cross and Purple Heart. He worked as a deputy with the Caldwell Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Mike Parker Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Helen Harris Parker; one daughter, Tina Steele and husband, Jim, both of Columbia; three sisters, Lorra Raine Maxwell and husband, George, both of Vidalia, Gracie Alexander and husband, Ben, both of Pineville, and Brenda Lavine of Pineville; two brothers, Bob Parker and Jerry Parker, both of Colfax, La.; two grandchildren, Savannah Elizabeth Steele and Jesse James Steele, both of Columbia.
Pallbearers will be deputies with the Caldwell Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Honorary pallbearers will be Guycell Thompson and Ben Alexander.
