FAYETTE — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is awaiting forensic test results that may help identify a suspect in the murder of a 24-year-old woman who was found dead in a church cemetery last month.
Sheriff Peter Walker declined to say what forensic evidence his office sent to the state crime lab because he did not want to compromise the investigation of Traneccia Collins’ death.
Collins, 24, of Fayette, was found shot to death in the cemetery of East Mount Olive Baptist Church on May 22.
Walker said at the time that Collins died of a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Walker said a preliminary investigation indicated that Collins was killed at another location and her body was placed in the church cemetery after her death.
Anyone with any information about the case should call Walker at 601-597-8475 or Investigators James Bailey or Bobby Bailey at 601-786-3403.
