VIDALIA — Proud parents may not be the only ones watching baseball games at the Vidalia Municipal Complex.
The Vidalia Police Department added four cameras to the exterior of the building Thursday to improve security, Assistant Police Chief Bruce Wiley said.
The department spent approximately $5,000 to purchase the cameras and a new digital video recorder, Wiley said.
The city’s information technology department installed the cameras on each corner of the police department building. Two of the cameras will face the tennis courts. The other two will face the baseball fields.
“We aren’t trying to solve a problem,” Wiley said. “We should have done this when we moved into the building. Ideally, I’d like to have cameras all over the municipal complex.”
The new cameras aren’t the only ones in the municipal complex.
Last year, the police department installed 18 infrared and night vision cameras throughout the building, including two with the ability to zoom in on object more than 2 miles away.
The video feeds are monitored in the dispatch room, but can also be accessed via smartphone.
