FERRIDAY — A horse was killed on Doty Road Thursday after being struck by a van.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Sunflower Lane and Doty Road around noon.

It happened when a horse escaped a pen on Doty Road, galloping across the street toward Sunflower Lane, witnesses said.

Ferriday resident Jesse Tolliver Jr. was driving the van that struck the horse, according to Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office reports. The horse cracked the van’s windshield, broke its headlight and dented the windshield.

Tolliver complained about an injured foot after the accident, but declined medical care.
