JONESVILLE – Services for William H. “Monk” Tarpley, 79, of Jonesville, who died Monday, June 30, 2008, in Ferriday, will be at 10 a.m. today at First Pentecostal Church of Jonesville with Brother Jack Knapp, Brother Bruce Lofton and the Rev. Huey Tarpley officiating.
Burial will follow at Pine Grove under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Jonesville.
Mr. Tarpley was born Aug. 29, 1928, in Jonesville, the son of Bill and Frances Tarpley. He was a retired game warden and was a member of First Pentecostal Church of Jonesville. He was also a life member of the National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited and National Wild Turkey Federation.
Mr. Tarpley proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Four Rivers Veterans Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Elvin Tarpley; and three sisters, Nobie Corbin, Lavada Clark and Louella Rutledge.
Survivors include his wife, Clarice Wiley Tarpley; two daughters, Debra Tarpley Book and husband, Emmett, and Jennifer Harp, all of Jonesville; three sons, Randy Tarpley, William Dennis “Little Monk” Tarpley and wife, Gwen, all of Jonesville, and Elvin Jeffery Tarpley and wife, Robbie, both of Natchitoches, La.; one sister, Lillie Yelverton of Natchez; 13 grandchildren, Armando Aguilar, Andy Lee Aguilar, Mia Stancart, Antonio Aguilar, Stacie LaRissa Tarpley, Mellinda Brittany Tarpley, Hanna Victoria Tarpley, William Grant Tarpley, Jodi Elizabeth Byrnes, Michael Crawford, Hailee Jean Hodges, Morgan Tarpley and Tyler Tarpley; and four great-grandchildren, Olivia Parker, Alecia Aguilar, Jack Foster and Gabriel Standard.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Tarpley, Grant Tarpley, Michael Crawford, Brent Lofton, Jamie Lofton and Daniel Staneart.
