VIDALIA – Services for Johnny O. Masters Jr., 66, of Vidalia, who died Sunday, July 6, 2008, at University Medical Center, in Jackson, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Riverside Baptist Church, in Vidalia, with the Rev. Glen Harrigill and the Rev. Gaylon Dawson officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, in Natchez, under the direction of Laird funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the church.
Mr. Masters was born Nov. 1, 1941, in Jonesville, the son of Johnny Oca Masters Sr. and Blanche Ivey Masters. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He is preceded in death by his father; wife, Annette Masters; one son, Gaylon Masters; and two brothers, David Masters and Charles Masters.
Survivors include his mother, Blanche Jones, of Delhi, La.; one daughter, Cathy Whatley and husband, Randy, both of Ferriday; one brother, Wain Masters and wife, Gayle; one sister, Sissy Chunn and husband, Gary, all of Bastrop, La.; one stepson, Willie Cochran of Bogalousa, La.; nine grandchildren, Johnny Bo Roberts of Houston, Brian David Whatley and wife, Nora, both of Seabrook, Texas, Greg Whatley of Louisiana, Mike Ferguson Jr. and wife, Michelle, both of Shreveport, La., Kyle Cochran of Bogalousa, La., Tabetha Whatley, Colby Whatley, both of Texas, and Angel Cochran and Anthony Cochran, both of Bogalousa; eight great-grandchildren, Jayne, Bo, Cheyenne, Aidan, Laylon, Landon, Dawson and Baby Taylor; a number of nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly; and a life time of friends whom he treated as family.
Pallbearers will be Brian Whatley, Mike Ferguson, Louis Calhoun, Travis Masters, Ty Ferrell, Jason Roberson, Richard Butler, and Tommy Thomas.
Honorary pallbearers will be Carl O. Porter, Garfield Braswell, Stanley Dawson, E.J. Conner, Carlos Peavey, Owen Hays, Wayne Finley, Jeff Wisner, Bobby White, Prentiss Graves, Bo Truly, Alton Hall and Bobby Cox.
Memorials may be made to Natchez Children’s Home or a charity of choice.
