NATCHEZ – Services for Genevia Sylvester Owens, 84, of Natchez, who died Sunday, July 6, 2008, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Christian Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Alexander officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Zion Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, with Eastern Star rites beginning at 6 p.m.
Mrs. Owens was born July 10, 1923, in Adams County, the daughter of Marshall Sylvester and Lucille Williams. She was a retired physician’s surgical assistant and nurse’s assistant. She was a lifelong member of Zion Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church where she served as a former church usher, missionary, stewardess and member of the Silver Leaf Chapter No.168, Order of Eastern Star.
Mrs. Owens was also a childcare provider, an Avon representative and a Tahitian NONI consultant.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Esaw Owens Sr.; one son, George Marshall Owens; and two grandsons, Kevis Kemp and Brian Brock.
Survivors include seven children, Carolyn Reeves and husband, Jabez, both of Natchez, Esaw Owens Jr., of Alexandria, La., Dorothy Brock and husband, Ivory, both of Stone Mountain, Ga., Walter Owens and wife, Evelyn, both of Savannah, Ga., Beverly Floyd, Lucinda Kemp and husband, William, and Lenardo Owens and wife, Linda, all of Chicago; former daughter-in-law, Brenda Smith, of Alexandria; former son-in-law, Percy Floyd of Apex, N.C.; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
