NATCHEZ – Services for Evelyn Marie Gordon Harris, 63, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Beulah Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl A. Smith officiating.
Burial will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 2 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.
Mrs. Harris was born in Natchez, the daughter of Foster M. Gordon Sr. and Margurite Dottery Gordon. She was a 1963 graduate of Sadie V. Thompson High School and was employed as a nurse’s aide at Natchez Regional Medical Center in the maternity ward. She was retired.
Mrs. Harris was a member of Beulah Baptist Church where she served on the Mothers’ Board and the Usher Board. She was also a member of the Beulah Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Foster M. Gordon Jr., of Natchez, Charles “PeeWee” Gordon, of Riverside, Calif., and Ray Horton of Baton Rouge; and one sister, Mary Lee Jackson of Natchez.
Survivors include a loving husband, J.C. Harris, two children, Marilyn Denise Harris of Charlotte, N.C., and Anthony Marshall’ Harris Sr., of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; two grandchildren, Veronica Renee’ Harris of Charlotte and Anthony Marshall’ Harris Jr. of Brooklyn Center; four brothers, Henry “Wilbert” Gordon and wife, Nola, Robert Gordon and Dewayne Blackwell, all of Natchez, and Donald Gordon of Minneapolis, Minn.; six sisters, Peggy Mayberry and husband, Harry, both of New Hope, Minn., Marguerite Carolyn Gordon, Helen Gordon, Eddice “Elaine” White, all of Minneapolis, Jacqueline Blackwell, Iona Hickingbottom, both of Natchez, and Connie Alcorn of Baton Rouge; one uncle, James Dottery of Riverside, Calif.; one aunt, Lillian Taylor of Natchez; eight sisters-in-law, Shelley Dickey and husband, Thomas, Elmerie Shaw and Sharon Elmore, all of Natchez, Inez Gordon of Riverside, Prentiss Harris, Willie Lee Hunt, Pearlie Mae Griffin and Floann Harris, all of Meadville; and three brothers-in-law, Clifton Harris and McArthur Harris, both of Brookhaven, and Billy Harris of Bossier City, La., and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sadie V. Thompson class of 1963.
