Natchez — From pearls to paintings, the nonprofit gallery, ArtsNatchez, kicks off an exhibit, featuring Robin Person, a jewelry designer and Patricia Knight, a multi-medium artist, with a reception, open to the public, from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6.

Person received her masters of art degree in history and museum studies from Western Michigan University and presently is the branch director at Historic Jefferson College.

Person designs jewelry including earrings, necklaces and bracelets using mainly freshwater pearls.

“I was attracted to freshwater pearls — the luster, the multitudes of colors, the versatility, the sheer beauty, the history of pearls throughout the centuries all attracted me to these oyster secretions,” Person said.

Person designs each unique piece never making the same twice.

“I make it work to fit you, just the way you want it, and am happy to alter already made pieces for the best fit for you.”

Person conducted a rosary making class at the gallery recently and on Nov. 22, she will teach a jewelry making class.

Knight earned her bachelor of arts in fine arts in upstate New York. She was employed by Eastman Kodak in Marketing and Advertising in the Digital & Applied Imaging department. Knight went on to earn her master of art in art education and she taught art in public schools near Rochester, N.Y., before making a move to Natchez in 2008. Knight is presently working full-time as a studio artist offering after school art lessons for students, as well as adults.

Knight, who doesn’t limit herself to one specific art medium, will display a variety of work, including linoleum cut prints, acrylic paintings, jewelry, illustration and some photography both digital and silver halide.

“I love to experiment, so I would not like to classify myself as a photographer or a painter,” Knight said.
