FERRIDAY — Ferriday Police Chief Richard Madison will return Tuesday from a 10-day administrative leave issued by Mayor Gene Allen.

Allen said he issued the leave as a consequence to something Madison did, but would not give further details.

“It’s a personnel matter, and I can’t discuss personnel matters,” Allen said. “He’ll be back Tuesday.”

Madison confirmed Friday that he was on leave, but also declined to comment why the leave was issued.

“I don’t have anything to talk about,” Madison said.

Allen appointed Madison as police chief in July.

Madison was first appointed chief in 2006, but resigned in 2008 — 14 days before then mayor-elect Glen McGlothin took office.

In Ferriday, the position of chief of police is appointed by the mayor rather than by election.

Before serving as chief, Madison also worked as an investigator for the police department from 2004 to 2006 when he resigned to take a job in California.

His resignation came after an ethics complaint was filed against Madison’s half-brother, Robert Davis. Davis was the FPD chief at the time

Davis resigned in early 2006 and Madison was appointed as his replacement.

The Ferriday native served in the U.S. Army for more than 20 years.
