NATCHEZ — Four teenagers were arrested Wednesday evening after a vigilant Neighborhood Watch volunteer notified authorities the teens were burglarizing a house.

Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said deputies responded to a call at approximately 6 p.m. that the teens had been seen going around the side of a house and then entering the dwelling on Dogwood Drive in the Forsythe subdivision.

The teens entered the house by pulling off a storm door, Mayfield said.

When deputies arrived, the four suspects attempted to run from the residence’s backyard but all were captured, he said.

The teens — two of who were aged 16 and two of who were aged 15 — were booked into the Adams County Juvenile Justice Detention Center and charged with burglary of a dwelling.

Mayfield said the same teens had previously been seen acting suspiciously around several vehicles in the area.

The sheriff praised the Neighborhood Watch volunteer for being aware of what was going on and calling the sheriff’s office.

“Forsythe has a tremendous Neighborhood Watch program with us — they are one of the most active ones we have,” Mayfield said.

“I can’t stress the importance of Neighborhood Watch. If it wasn’t for them, we might not have caught the suspects.”
