052413 BessieEvans obitpicBROOKHAVEN — Services for Bessie May Evans, 66, of Brookhaven, who died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Post-Acute Specialty Hospital in Hammond, La., will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grateful Ministry International with Apostle Terrell Brinson officiating.

Burial will follow at Springfield Church Cemetery under the direction of Williams Mortuary in Brookhaven.

Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home, with family in attendance from 6 to 7 p.m.

Mrs. Evans was born June 18, 1946, in Lincoln County, the daughter of Sammie May and Lillie Tolliver May.

Bessie accepted Christ at an early age as her Savior and united with the Marshall Baptist Church near Ruth. She transferred her membership to Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church in New Orleans and later back to Brookhaven to Grateful Ministry International where she was a mother of the church and remained faithful until her death.

Bessie received her formal education at Lincoln County Training School in Bogue Chitto and Brookhaven. She was a member of the class of 1965.

Upon arriving to New Orleans, Bessie was gainfully employed at Dad’s Cookies and at Kramer, a neighborhood grocery store. Bessie completed her education in the medical field at Eastern Community College which led to her employment at Tulane Medical Hospital.

She married Willie Evans, formerly of Natchez, June 29, 2000.

Survivors include three children; seven grandchildren; two stepchildren; six grandchildren; nine siblings; seven stepbrothers and stepsisters; three aunts; five sisters-in-law, Shirley Evans, Claudia Evans, Linda Ross and husband, Oliver, Sandra Evans-Bruce and Angela Evans, all of Natchez, Evangelist Connie Taylor and husband, the Rev. Darrell Taylor, of Charleston, S.C.; one brother-in-law, the Rev. Tommie Evans of Natchez; and a number of nieces and nephews.
