FERRIDAY – Services for Tom Carter Sr., 91, of Ferriday, who died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mercy Seat Baptist Church, in Ferriday, with the Rev. Freddie Schiele officiating.
Burial will follow at Mount Mariah Church Cemetery, in Ferriday, under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Carter was born Dec. 21, 1916, in Frogmore, the son of Willis and Cora Harris Carter.
He was a retired farmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Tom Carter Jr.; and one daughter, Carolyn Carter.
Survivors include his wife, Pouline Smith Carter; three sons, Joseph Carter and wife, Mildred, and Percy Carter, all of Ferriday, and Charles Carter of Richmond, Calif.; two daughters, Sallie Carter and Carolyn Carter, both of Richmond; one brother, James Carter of Sicily Island; three sisters, Eliza Green and Mary Smith, both of Ferriday, and Martha Branch of Jonesville; 41 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
