BLACK SPRINGS, Ark. – Services for Hal Dempsey Gaston, 32, of Ferriday, who died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at his residence with his life partner and family by his side, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Mount Gilead Baptist Church, near Black Springs, Ark., with Brother Brian Hill officiating.
Burial will follow at Gaston family cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home in Glenwood, Ark.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, in Glenwood, and from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Young’s Funeral Home, in Ferriday.
Mr. Gaston was born Sept. 3, 1975, in Murfreesboro, Ark., the son of Lyle and Mary Gaston. He was a retired U.S. Army Specialist E-4. He was a resident of Ferriday for the past eight years. He served his country in the U.S. Army in unit 2nd and 2nd 19 Delta as a Calvary Scout.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Hal and Pearl Gaston; maternal grandparents, Arley and Irene Lewis; grandfather, Dalas Perkins; and one aunt, Mineko Gaston.
Survivors include partner in life, Christopher Robbins, of Ferriday, their communion date was July 10, 1999 and duration was nine years, one month and 14 days; mother of partner, Virginia Ruth Robbins; his parents, Lyle and Mary Gaston, both of Norman, Ark.; two sisters, Stephanie Koontz and husband, Bryce, both of Morrilton, Ark., and Sharon O’Neal and husband, Robert, both of Amity, Ark.; five nieces, Kayla, Fallan and Olivya Koontz, Danielle O’Neal and Chasity Farris; six uncles, Robert, Harold, Joe, Alton Carol Gaston, AJ Lewis Jr. and Bobby J. Lewis; five aunts, Thelma Sue Hurst, Patsy Gaston, Inga Gaston, Leeann Gaston and Susy Lewis; one great-niece, Hadli Farris of Monterey; two great-nephews, Taylor and J.J. Farris, both of Monterey; and a number of friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be J.D. Lewis, Bobby Lewis Jr., Soney Gaston, Jim Lewis, Christopher Lewis, Richard Lewis, Dr. John Rainey, Noel Lewis, Joe Lewis, Bryce Koontz and Robert O’Neal.
