CENTREVILLE – Services for Richard Franklin “Maypop” Mayfield, 71, who died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at Field Memorial Hospital, in Centreville, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethany Presbyterian Church with the Rev. E.C. Case officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Newman Funeral Home in Centreville.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Mayfield was born Jan. 20, 1937, in Quemado, Texas, the son of Franklin R. and Priscilla A. Mayfield. He was a graduate of Zachary High School and served in the U.S. Army. He was an umpire for many years with the Mississippi Private School Association and the Mississippi High School Activities Association.
Mr. Mayfield was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Baker Mayfield; and his parents.
Survivors include three daughters, Debbie Harrell and husband, Tommy, both of Slaughter, La., Pam Johnson and husband, Tillery, both of Woodville, and Becky Smith of Ridgeland; one sister, Anne Prendergast and husband, John, both of Slidell, La.; one sister-in-law, Ne Bozeman of Zachary, La.; nine grandchildren, Chris Harrell, Josh Harrell, Courtney Treloar, Aimee Jenkins, Michael Smith, Tommy Johnson, Angie Smith, Steven Smith and Carol Johnson; and eight great-grandchildren.
