Natchez — Family memorial services for Hugh Wilgus “Gus” Oliver, 73, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at Natchez Community Hospital will be at a later date.
Mr. Oliver was born Jan. 18, 1935, in Natchez, the son of Hugh Oliver and LaUna Wilgus Oliver. He was a resident of Natchez most of his life. He graduated from Natchez High School where he excelled as a football lineman. He attended Southeast Louisiana College on a football scholarship and further studied at Mississippi State University. Mr. Oliver served two and a half years in the U.S. Army at Fort Ord, Calif., and in Colorado.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors and had a strong love for animals. Mr. Oliver was an especially loving father.
Survivors include one son, Richard Oliver, of Hattiesburg; his wife, Melva; one sister, June Oliver Parker and her husband, William, of Natchez; and a number of uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
