NATCHEZ — Mayor Butch Brown said he believes the City of Natchez has determined whom it will hire to fill the information technology director position.
Brown declined to name the potential director because the person is currently employed at another business.
Brown fired former IT director Eric Junkin April 23.
The city has contracted with local IT specialist Ed Bowser and also Edward Songy, who voluntarily helped Adams County identify its IT needs during the search for a county IT director.
Brown said Songy would conduct an assessment of the city’s IT needs and equipment.
“We intend to upgrade the servers and the equipment and get them all hooked up properly,” he said. “We will get an assessment of what we have, good equipment and obsolete, and get everybody on the same kind of equipment.”
The Natchez Board of Aldermen also gave Brown permission at its meeting Tuesday to replace the carpet in one or two IT rooms where equipment is stored with wood flooring.
The carpet has not been replaced since 1993, Brown said.
Brown said he does not know when the new IT director will start.
