Odessa Stokes

NATCHEZ – Services for Odessa Lena Drew Stokes, 77, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Zion Hill No. 1 Baptist Church with Pastor Luther Bonds officiating.
Burial will follow at First Moses Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Mrs. Stokes was born Sept. 18, 1933, in Natchez, the daughter of Fred Lener Patterson. She attended Natchez-Adams County Public Schools. She was a member of First Moses Baptist Church where she served as usher, secretary and many other duties as needed.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. James Stokes; two sons, Paul Rounds of Jackson and Mac Rounds and wife, Larraine, both of Chino Hills, Calif.; one daughter, Imetra “Candy” Joiner of Chino Hills; one sister, Pauline Givens and husband, Charles, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four stepdaughters, Lois Gorden and husband, Grover, both of Chicago, Barbara Miller and Diane Stokes, both of Houston, Texas, and Patricia Scott of Natchez; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one niece; one nephew; two brothers-in-law, Leo Stokes and wife, Ora, both of St. Louis and Oscar Stokes and wife, Essie, both of Atlanta; three sisters-in-law, Erma Jean Stokes of St. Louis, Suzanne Powell and Claudia Stokes, both of Decatur, Ill.; one godson, Kenzel Issac of Natchez; seven stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
