NATCHEZ – Services for Johnnie Jackson Jr., 92, who died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at his residence, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, in Cannonsburg, with the Rev. Percy Turner officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from noon until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Jackson was born March 12, 1916, in Natchez, the son of Johnnie Jackson Sr. and Mamie Jackson Perryman. He was retired from St. Catherine Gravel Company and was also a carpenter. Mr. Jackson served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Lynwood Society.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Catherine White Jackson; six brothers, Otis, Cleveland, Robert, Joseph, James and Boyd Jackson; three sisters, Elnora Felton, Doris Green and Gloria Winchester; two grandchildren, Richard and Pamela Jackson; and one great-grandson, Jekius Foster.
Survivors include one son, Richard Jackson and wife, Sadie, both of Natchez; five daughters, Jean Hawkins and husband, John, Esther Foster and husband, Willie, Johnnie Herrington and husband, William, Georgia Jackson and husband, Berthone, all of Natchez, and Mamie Hayes and husband, Albert, both of New Orleans; two brothers, Handy Jackson and wife, Johnnie, both of Chicago, and Iray Jackson and wife, Joann, both of Seattle, Wash.; one sister, Lou Etta Smith of Chicago; 21 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
