FERRIDAY — Services for Officer Jerry Louis Barnes Sr., 54, of Vidalia, who died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Promise Hospital in Vidalia, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Dunbarton Baptist Church in Ferriday with the Rev. Elbert Sanson officiating.
Burial will follow at Eva Pentecostal Church Cemetery in Monterey under the direction of Comer Funeral Home in Ferriday with honors to a fallen friend.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until service time Wednesday, both at the church.
Mr. Barnes, a deputy for the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office, was born June 27, 1958, the son of Charles B. and Julia C. Parker Barnes. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish.
Mr. Barnes was loved and was very close to his family. He had made many friends along his journey here and will surely be missed.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Survivors include his father of Vidalia; his loving wife of 33 years, Shelley Barnes; two daughters, Lynn Mixon and husband, Eric, of Monterey and Virginia Guillot and husband, Eric, of Vidalia; three sons, Jerry L. Barnes Jr., Jarrod Barnes and Justin Barnes, all of Vidalia; one brother, Gene Barnes and wife, Mary, of Greenwood, Ind..; and twin sister, Sherry Harris and husband, Billy, of Vidalia; six grandchildren, Brianna Tarver, Charlie Tarver, Rebecca Barnes, Madison Barnes, Makenna Guillot and Anna Guillot; two sisters-in-law, Kathy Domanque and husband, Gary, and Donna Fair, all of Monterey.
Pallbearers will be Frankie Carroll, John Mitchell, Jimmy Watts, Kenneth Tucker, Patrick Cavin and Buddy Farris.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office, Vidalia Police Department, Louisiana State Police Troop E and special friends Larry Lawrence and Ferris Durham.
