A week filled with tragic headlines from across the nation left us praying for the families involved.

But the gloomy week gave way to a sunny weekend for all to enjoy.

Let’s take a look back at some of the highlights from last week:

-The Natchez chapter of Gaining Ground Sustainability Institute of Mississippi offered residents a variety of ways to learn about the earth and sustainable living during the first Natchez Earthfest on the bluff. We’re glad the event was a success and hope residents took away some tips on how to live a green life.

-Selah Cowan was recognized during a Daughters of the American Revolution chapter meeting for being selected as the Southeastern United States regional winner in the group’s annual essay contest. Cowan wrote about Anna Smith Strong and the role she played in the American Revolutionary War. We congratulate Cowan and wish the best to her as she competes for the nationwide honor.

-Cathedral High School seniors have been carrying around some extra weight lately, as they became proud parents to 12-pound bags of rice and beans. The babies are part of their religion class. This is the last week of the students’ glimpse into parenthood, and we hope it goes well.

Showers and thunderstorms are forecasted for a majority of the week, but we’re certain this week will feature good news across the area.
