NATCHEZ — Adams County’s dependence on tourism means that residents often try to entice visitors from around the globe.

But earlier this week, one Adams County resident claimed to have seen a visitor that may have been from outside the globe, according to a report filed Monday on a website.

An unidentified flying object report was filed from Adams County Wednesday on the Mutual UFO Network website’s database. The report was filed anonymously

The report states that the filer walked outside his or her front door at approximately 10 p.m. Monday and — after walking down the driveway — turned around and saw a golf-ball-shaped-and-sized orb hovering over the house and glowing bright gold.

The filer said the orb rose and moved around slowly in several directions before blinking three times and disappearing.

“I thought it was some kind of bug, but I knew it wasn’t,” the filer wrote.

The report states that the filer saw a similar thing happen when he or she was a child, except in that instance the orb “shot off upwards into the sky really fast.”

MUFON’s website says it is the largest and oldest UFO organization in the world and that it has a membership of 2,800 people and 800 trained field investigators.

MUFON Mississippi’s Director Richard Hoffman said by e-mail the Adams County report was being investigated and that preliminary analysis was being conducted.

Adams County Emergency Manager Stan Owens said his office has never received any report of an UFO.

“This is the first time in the five years that I have been in the emergency management office that I have had an alien sighting,” Owens said.

The emergency management office does not have a specific plan for UFOs, Owens said, but it does have an “all-hazards” plan that could be implemented should a UFO-related emergency arise.
