HARRISONBURG — Services for Marvin Aplin, 87, of Harrisonburg, La., who died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at Columns Nursing Home in Jonesville, will be at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Harrisonburg with Rev. Ralph Webber, Rev. Thomy Green and Rev. Ed Cotton officiating.
Burial will follow in Harrisonburg Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Jonesville.
Mr. Aplin was born July 4 , 1921, in Aimwell, La. A man of many trades and talents, first and foremost a Christian, he became a member of First Baptist Church during the summer of 1937. He was a Sunday school teacher, touching many young people’s lives.
Mr. Aplin was a great defender of our American way of life. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II under Generals Patton and Eisenhower and other great leaders. He fought in many battles including the Battle of the Bulge and helped liberate the concentration camps.
He was preceded in death by his father Arch Hartwell Aplin, mother Mae Terry Aplin and brother, Morris Aplin.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Grace Sanson Aplin; one son, Marcus Lynn and his wife Janis Aplin of Harrisonburg; one daughter, Mary and her husband Alan Mobley of Pineville, La.; one sister, Onita McGuffee of Olla, La.; three brothers, Arch Aplin Jr. and Jimmie Dale Aplin of Lake Jackson, Texas and William Marshall Aplin of Toledo Bend, La.; one granddaughter, Melissa Mobley of Baton Rouge and one grandson, Brian Mobley of Pineville, La.
Pallbearers will be Malcolm Terry James Aplin, Perry Aplin Jr., Joey Russell, L. Jr. Sanson and Alfred Lloyd Gemar. Honorary pallbearers will be his nieces and nephews.
