NATCHEZ – Services for Albert Morris Evans, 73, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at Glenburney Nursing Home, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Windy Hill No. 1 Baptist Church, on Cranfield Road, with the Rev. James Anderson officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Evans was born May 11, 1935, in Adams County, the son of Orac Metcalfe Evans Sr. and Easter Smith Evans. He attended Natchez Adams Public Schools and was baptized in 1944 by the late Rev. Freddie Williams at Windy Hill Baptist Church and later served as a deacon. He was a carpenter for most of his life and was instrumental in constructing and remodeling a number of buildings throughout the Miss-Lou area.
Mr. Evans was married to Lillie B. Wright Evans Fleming and to this union one child was born. He later married Lula Mae Anderson Evans and to this union was four stepchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kenneth D. Singleton; two brothers, James Evans and Orac Metcalfe Evans Jr.; and two sisters, Nevada Campbell and Viola Cook.
Survivors include one daughter, Arline Evans Hutchins; four stepchildren, Harvey Anderson and wife, Karen, Geneva Anderson, Elizabeth Hall and husband, Jimmy, all of Natchez, and Joe Anderson and wife, Pam, both of Fayette; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one step-great-grandchild; four sisters, Maggie Evans, Roberta Logan and Carrie Evans, all of Natchez, and Mary Flournoy of Chicago; three brothers, Henry Evans and Wilbert Evans, both of Natchez, and Louis Evans and wife, Evelyn, both of New Orleans; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
