NATCHEZ — Natchez police are investigating a Tuesday shooting in which multiple shots were fired at a vehicle carrying two children.
The shooting, police believe, stemmed from an earlier fight between the shooter and the children’s father.
Natchez Police Detective Jerry Ford said no one was injured in the incident.
Ford said the children’s mother reported that their father called her to pick him up, and when she arrived, she reportedly saw him and an acquaintance fighting outside Talk of the Town nightclub on East Franklin Street.
After the fight, the woman reported that her children’s father got in her car and was driving away when she saw the acquaintance run to his car to get a gun, according to the police report.
The woman reportedly yelled to the man not to shoot because her children were in the car, but the man allegedly fired multiple times, ultimately shooting out the back window of the car, Ford said.
The children were sitting in the backseat of the car, according to the report. Ford did not know the ages of the children but said they were young children.
Ford declined to name the shooting suspect and said the investigation is ongoing.
