NATCHEZ — From an invasion of the past to present-day art and a community block party, the Miss-Lou has several offerings for a weekend outing.

Temperate weather should cooperate for most outdoor events, with sun and clouds alternating over days that will see high temperatures ranging from the 70s to the low 80s.

Pioneer Living History and Expedition Natchez 1813

To mark the bicentennial of the War of 1812, the 7th U.S. Living History Association and other re-enactors from the region will have a military parade from Natchez Under-the-Hill to the Eola Guest House and Prentiss Club at 6 p.m. Friday.

The re-enactors will represent the Tennessee Militia of 1813, which camped in Natchez while awaiting orders for the Battle of New Orleans.

The Natchez Downtown Development Association will host the expedition at the Prentiss Club Friday night, and will have a dinner at the Eola Hotel for $30 on Saturday. Tickets to both events cost $50.

Saturday and Sunday, the re-enactors will have a living history encampment at Historic Jefferson College, where the militia actually camped. The encampment will feature more than 50 craftsmen, traders, pioneer merchants and Native Americans demonstrating period craft and survival skills.

The event will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and Saturday only admission for those 12 and older will be $5.

Art on the Bluff

Second Saturday Art on the Bluff, which will display the work of local artists, will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. next to the bandstand on Broadway Street.

The event will include a free painting area for members of the public.

Parkway Baptist Church block party

Parkway Baptist Church will offer a block party for the public from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday.

Festivities will include free food, door prizes and games for the entire community.

Positive Attitude Changes Everything beauty pageant

The Positive Attitude Changes Everything program will host a beauty pageant for children ages 6 to 18 at the Concordia Correctional Community Center at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

PACE Program President Andre Keys said the pageant will be used to raise funds for children in the program.

The funds will be used to provide scholarships for local students, Keys said.

Funds the program raises are also used to provide basic hygienic products such as tissue and deodorant to children who need them, he said.

Admission to the pageant are $7 in advance and $10 at the door.
